Giants Poised to Land 10-Time Pro Bowl QB Amid Aaron Rodgers Speculation

The New York Giants opted not to pursue a trade for Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, nor do they hold one of the top two selections in the upcoming NFL Draft. This means they are unlikely to land highly sought-after quarterback prospects such as Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders in April. As a result, the organization faces a crucial decision at the quarterback position—one that could directly impact the job security of general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll. Their ability to find a capable signal-caller may determine the direction of the franchise moving forward.

With that in mind, recent reports from ESPN’s Adam Schefter and others have linked the Giants to a potential move for 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers. Despite his struggles over the past two seasons with the New York Jets, Rodgers remains an option as the Giants explore veteran quarterbacks. However, he isn’t the only experienced passer potentially in play. Another accomplished quarterback, slightly younger than Rodgers but with a similarly impressive résumé, has reportedly expressed interest in joining New York. That player is Russell Wilson of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, Wilson views the Giants as a potential destination if he is unable to secure a return to Pittsburgh. “Russell Wilson considers the Giants a potential option for him, should he fail to re-sign with Pittsburgh,” Graziano reported on March 2. The situation in Pittsburgh remains fluid, but there is growing speculation that the Steelers favor a younger option in Justin Fields. At just 25 years old, Fields is more than a decade younger than Wilson and could be a more cost-effective long-term solution for the franchise. If the Steelers move forward with Fields, Wilson will need to explore other opportunities, and New York may emerge as a viable landing spot.

In comparison to Rodgers, Wilson may be an easier sell to the Giants’ front office and fan base. Rodgers’ availability has been a concern after he missed nearly the entire 2023 season due to injury, and the Jets struggled to a 5-12 record with him on the roster. Meanwhile, Wilson, at 36 years old, helped guide the Steelers to the playoffs last season. Although Pittsburgh stumbled late in the year with a five-game losing streak that ended in a first-round playoff exit, Wilson still managed to earn his 10th career Pro Bowl selection.

Much like Rodgers, Wilson is a former Super Bowl champion and could serve as a bridge quarterback for the Giants in 2025 while they develop a young passer selected in the draft.
