The New York Giants are unlikely to land Matthew Stafford and almost certainly won’t acquire Cooper Kupp, but they may have a shot at bringing in Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams instead. This possibility became even more intriguing following the latest update on Adams’ availability.
On Sunday, March 2, Adams was placed on the trade block. However, if the New York Jets are unable to find a trade partner, they are expected to release him, as reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

According to Rapoport’s tweet, the Jets are now fielding offers for Adams due to his substantial $38.2 million cap hit. If they are unable to finalize a trade, Adams is likely to be released, which could pave the way for a reunion with quarterback Aaron Rodgers on a new team.
Given Adams’ talent, the Giants should be seriously interested, especially considering that his next destination may be influenced by Rodgers’ future plans. Adams joined the Jets last season to reunite with his former Green Bay Packers teammate, and with the veteran quarterback also set to become available, the Giants could attempt to bring both players to New York.
Although Stafford staying with the Los Angeles Rams ended any speculation about him joining the Giants, he might have brought Kupp with him had a trade occurred. That scenario is now off the table, but a Rodgers-Adams reunion could serve as a strong alternative for the Giants.
CBS Sports’ Dan Schneier expressed this sentiment, noting that while some envisioned Stafford and Kupp in New York, the possibility of adding Rodgers and Adams without giving up draft capital could be equally appealing. Schneier pointed out that the Giants have enough short-term cap flexibility to make such a move viable while also leaving open the possibility of drafting a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick.
While Rodgers’ potential arrival presents both benefits and challenges, acquiring Adams would be a much clearer positive for the Giants. Even though his 2024 season statistics were somewhat below his usual elite production, Adams still surpassed 1,000 receiving yards for the fifth consecutive year. His reduced numbers were partly due to splitting time between the Jets and Raiders, but he demonstrated flashes of the talent that has made him a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro.
Adams’ advanced route-running ability remains one of his greatest strengths. Analysts have pointed out his precise techniques, such as a subtle tempo shift in his route running and excellent footwork to create separation from defenders. His skill set makes him an ideal target for whoever takes over as the Giants’ starting quarterback next season.
However, the idea of bringing in Rodgers comes with significant concerns. While he still possesses an elite arm, his injury history, age, and off-field controversies make him a risky investment. SNY’s Connor Hughes reported that the Giants have internally discussed Rodgers as a potential option but emphasized that he is not necessarily their primary fallback after missing out on Stafford.
Ultimately, the Giants must carefully weigh their options. While adding Adams seems like a no-brainer given his skill level and potential availability, pursuing Rodgers is a more complicated decision. The team may instead opt for a different veteran quarterback, one who carries fewer risks but still provides stability at the position.
