Insider Reveals White Sox’s Potential New Manager Amid Historic Struggles

The Chicago White Sox are on track to end the season with one of the worst records in MLB history. Their dismal performance led to the firing of former manager Pedro Grifol, and with interim manager Grady Sizemore failing to improve the situation, the team is expected to seek a new leader for the 2025 season.

The White Sox, alongside the Miami Marlins, are among the least attractive managerial vacancies in baseball this year. Both teams have had poor seasons and are entering rebuilding phases, making it difficult to attract top managerial talent.

Despite the challenge, the White Sox have an advantage in that they have already begun their search for a new manager with Grifol’s departure. Early indications suggest that there is a leading candidate for the job.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, while the White Sox will consider multiple candidates, their primary target is likely to be Skip Schumaker. However, Schumaker will face significant competition from other teams.

To lure Schumaker away from teams with better prospects, the White Sox will need to offer substantial financial incentives and job security. Given Schumaker’s recent experience with the Marlins—a team undergoing a complete rebuild and overhaul—he may be reluctant to join a team that is also in a rebuilding phase. The White Sox’s reputation for not investing heavily in their team under owner Jerry Reinsdorf further complicates their chances of securing Schumaker’s commitment.
