Washington Nationals outfielder Daylen Lile was discharged from the hospital following a frightening fall, as announced by manager Davey Martinez on Sunday. Lile sustained only a lower back contusion from the incident, which occurred during Saturday’s exhibition game against the Boston Red Sox in Fort Myers, Florida.
During the game, Lile fell over the right-center field wall while attempting to catch a home run hit by Red Sox prospect Tyler Miller in the seventh inning. After the fall, Red Sox personnel in the bullpen alerted Washington trainers to attend to Lile, who displayed movement in his arms and legs before being transported to a nearby hospital.
Martinez confirmed on Sunday that Lile had undergone a CT scan and subsequently returned to West Palm Beach. While experiencing soreness, Lile is considered day-to-day and is expected to return to play once he recovers. Lile, ranked as the Nationals’ No. 6 prospect in Kiley McDaniel’s 2024 rankings, was drafted by Washington in the second round in 2021 from Kentucky.
