As the Philadelphia Eagles gear up for the 2025 Super Bowl, they are also preparing for a significant change that may follow the game’s conclusion: Kellen Moore potentially leaving to become the new head coach of the New Orleans Saints.
While it’s not guaranteed that Moore will depart—he might decide to go for another Super Bowl victory or seek revenge on the Chiefs for their previous win over the Eagles—it’s likely that he will leave. This would mark the fourth consecutive year under head coach Nick Sirianni that the team will need to find a new offensive coordinator.
Luckily, the Eagles have a ready-made replacement in Kevin Patullo, who currently serves as the passing game coordinator and assistant head coach. In an interview with Eliot Shorr-Parks before the Super Bowl, Patullo expressed his deep familiarity with the Eagles’ offense, describing his role as a mix of both offensive coordinator and head coach responsibilities. He noted that he’s fortunate to experience both roles, which provides him with unique insights into the team’s operations.
Patullo shared that his involvement spans across all areas of the offense—not just the passing game, but also the running game, RPOs, situational strategies like two-minute drills, and red-zone plays. He’s had a hand in nearly every offensive aspect, making him highly qualified to step into an offensive coordinator role should Moore leave.
When asked if he feels prepared to take on Moore’s position, Patullo expressed confidence. With 16 years of experience in the NFL, he believes the current role has been valuable in his growth as a coach. He’s open to whatever opportunities come his way, trusting that things will unfold as they are meant to.
The question remains whether the Eagles would be better off hiring an external candidate, such as Bobby Slowik, to replace Moore. While Moore was an outsider who contributed significantly to the offense, Patullo’s experience and close relationship with Sirianni make him a strong internal option for the job. If Sirianni opts to promote from within, Patullo could be the ideal candidate to continue the team’s offensive success.
