Top Insider Hints at Giants’ Key Target for 2025 Draft: Explosive Senior Bowl Star Set to Ignite Offense

The New York Giants are keen on bolstering their offense in 2025 after finishing the 2024 season with the league’s second-lowest scoring unit. Aside from standout rookie Malik Nabers, the team lacks consistent big-play threats in the receiving corps. To address this issue, the 2025 NFL Draft offers potential solutions, with Oregon wide receiver Tez Johnson emerging as a promising prospect.

Johnson has been one of the standout performers during Senior Bowl practices, capturing attention with his speed and ability to consistently beat defenders. Despite initial concerns about his weight—he weighed in at a mere 156 pounds—Johnson has been nearly unstoppable in drills, using his quickness to elude defensive backs and create separation.

Justin Melo of The Draft Network highlighted Johnson as one of the Senior Bowl’s biggest winners, noting, “Defensive backs have had absolutely no answer for his quickness in pass-catching drills. Johnson has been unguardable, using lightning-fast explosiveness to avoid press coverage and create ample separation. He’ll do the same thing at the next level.”

Johnson’s collegiate career at Oregon underscores his potential as a dynamic playmaker. In 2024, he recorded 83 receptions for 898 yards and 10 touchdowns. This followed a highly productive 2023 season where he amassed 86 receptions for 1,182 yards and another 10 touchdowns. Johnson transferred to Oregon from Troy in 2023, making the most of his final two seasons of eligibility and establishing himself as a legitimate NFL draft prospect.

Bleacher Report’s Scouting Department graded Johnson as a third-round pick entering Senior Bowl week. His impressive performance during practice has only boosted his stock, with John Schmeelk of Giants.com praising him as “the top receiver at practice the first two days.” Schmeelk even likened Johnson to Houston Texans wideout Tank Dell, another undersized but explosive receiver who made a name for himself at the Senior Bowl before being drafted.

The Giants are in need of a player with Johnson’s unique skill set—a speedy receiver who can stretch the field and open up opportunities for explosive plays. His ability to get open over the top and create mismatches could provide the spark the Giants’ offense needs in 2025.

If Johnson remains available during the middle rounds of the draft, the Giants would be wise to take a chance on him. His combination of speed, quickness, and playmaking ability makes him an exciting prospect with the potential to elevate their offensive game.
