Saints Coach Likely to Part Ways with Team for Seahawks After Second Interview

The New Orleans Saints are expected to look significantly different in 2025, with further changes on the horizon, including offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak potentially leaving the team. Kubiak, who is part of the Kyle Shanahan coaching tree, joined the Saints in 2024 after leaving the San Francisco 49ers. His debut season in New Orleans started strong, with Kubiak replacing former offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael’s system with fresh and innovative passing concepts.

Although Kubiak’s first year in New Orleans was promising, it may be his only one. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Kubiak is set to have a second interview with the Seattle Seahawks for their vacant offensive coordinator position, meaning the Saints could find themselves with a third offensive coordinator since Derek Carr joined the team. While the hire has not been confirmed, Nick Underhill of New Orleans Football reported that there is growing momentum for Kubiak to join Seattle.

Kubiak was a standout early in the Saints’ season, leading the team to two dominant victories. However, the team’s performance waned as the season went on. The question remains whether the league adapted to Kubiak’s scheme, or if the Saints’ struggles were more about having a subpar offensive line, Spencer Rattler at quarterback, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling as the top wide receiver.

New Orleans faced an unusually high number of injuries last year, so Kubiak shouldn’t be blamed for the team’s late-season collapse. However, with Dennis Allen fired and a new head coach likely to bring in their own staff, it wouldn’t be surprising if Kubiak moves on to another opportunity.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald parted ways with offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb after just one season. Grubb’s scheme, which was better suited for college football, has opened the door for Kubiak to join a more stable organization with exciting young talent. While Geno Smith and Derek Carr are comparable quarterbacks, the Seahawks boast a more dynamic receiving corps in D.K. Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, making them a more enticing destination than the Saints, who feature Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed.
