There has been much discussion surrounding the decision-making process of Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers and whether he should return to college football. Ultimately, Ewers chose to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, announcing his decision on Wednesday night.
However, according to Horns247’s Chip Brown, Ewers turned down an $8 million offer from an unnamed school to leave Texas and enter the transfer portal.
Ewers’ high school coach, Riley Dodge, told Brown that Texas was always Ewers’ preferred place to play college football. “He wanted to leave Texas in good standing,” Dodge said.
One of the schools reportedly interested in Ewers was the Miami Hurricanes, although they later signed former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck from the transfer portal.
During his three seasons at Texas, Ewers posted a 27-9 record as a starter, ranking fourth in school history for wins, just one behind Bobby Layne, who started for four seasons. Ewers led the Longhorns to a Big 12 Championship, joining a select group of quarterbacks—Vince Young, Colt McCoy, and James Brown—to do so. In addition, he became the first Texas quarterback to lead the team to back-to-back conference championship games in their first year in the SEC.
Ewers also guided Texas to its only two College Football Playoff appearances in program history, coming close to securing a national title appearance in both games.
Statistically, Ewers ranks third in school history with 9,128 passing yards and 68 passing touchdowns. He also holds the third and fourth highest single-season passing yard totals in school history (3,479 in 2023 and 3,472 in 2024) and the third most passing touchdowns in a single season (31 in 2024).
Now, Ewers heads to the NFL with the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Texas legends like Sam Ehlinger, Colt McCoy, and Vince Young, and make a name for himself at the professional level.
