Breaking: Giants Reportedly Part Ways with Two Key Coaches After Struggling Season

The New York Giants have made significant coaching changes, firing defensive passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson, along with safeties coach Michael Treier. This move follows a disappointing 3-14 season for the Giants, although the team has already confirmed that head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen will remain in their positions for the 2025 season.

Despite finishing eighth in the league for passing yards allowed per game (210.6), the Giants’ defense struggled in other key areas. They ranked near the bottom in several passing defense categories, sitting tied for 30th with a 69.4% pass completion rate allowed and dead last in the league with only five interceptions.

Henderson, who is 55 years old, had served as the Giants’ defensive backs coach for five seasons, and this year also held the added responsibility of being the defensive passing game coordinator. Prior to his tenure with the Giants, Henderson had coaching stints with several NFL teams, including the Atlanta Falcons (2016-19), Dallas Cowboys (2012-15), Cleveland Browns (2009-11), and New York Jets (2007-08). He began his NFL career as the Jets’ director of player development in 2006.

Treier, 34, had been with the Giants since 2020, working in various coaching roles such as defensive quality control, assistant defensive backs coach, and most recently, safeties coach for the 2023-24 seasons. Before joining the Giants, Treier gained coaching experience in college football.

These coaching changes come as part of the team’s efforts to address the struggles of their defense and find ways to improve their performance ahead of the next season. The team will now look for replacements who can help turn around a defense that has shown significant room for improvement in key areas.
