With the NFL trade deadline fast approaching, discussions are intensifying. The New York Giants, currently at 2-6, face a challenging path to the 2024 playoffs, prompting them to consider their future, particularly regarding quarterback Daniel Jones. Jones is under a four-year, $160 million contract, but an out clause allows the Giants to part ways after this season with only $22 million in dead cap.
Given the team’s struggles and Jones’ statistics—1,706 passing yards, six touchdowns, and five interceptions—it’s likely the Giants will opt to end his contract. This would leave them searching for a young quarterback, either through the draft or the limited free-agent pool. However, a potential trade could be another avenue.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano suggests the Giants might target Bryce Young, the 2023 No. 1 overall pick from Carolina, who has faced difficulties in his first season. Graziano proposes a trade where the Giants acquire Young for a fourth-round pick. He notes that Carolina may not find a better offer, and if they choose to move on, New York could be a favorable destination. Although Young and Giants coach Brian Daboll didn’t work together at Alabama, they likely share connections, and Daboll might see Young as a promising player to develop. Taking a chance on a former top pick could prove beneficial for the Giants.
