The Cardinals announced the activation of rookie defensive lineman Darius Robinson from injured reserve on Monday, as noted in the NFL’s transactions. Head coach Jonathan Gannon spoke about Robinson’s return, stating, “We’ll take it day by day with him and just keep working with him every day, hoping for improvement.”
With an open roster spot available, the team did not need to make any corresponding moves to accommodate Robinson’s return. He resumed practice on October 9, necessitating a roster adjustment by Wednesday to reinstate him among the 53 active players.
Robinson, a first-round draft pick, suffered a calf injury during a practice on August 22, which led to his placement on injured reserve the following week. In addition to his physical challenges, he has also been coping with the recent loss of his mother.
His return is timely for the Cardinals, as their defensive line has been significantly impacted by injuries. The team has already lost starters Bilal Nichols and Justin Jones for the remainder of the season. Additionally, other defensive linemen like Roy Lopez, Khyiris Tonga, and Naquan Jones have faced their own injury issues this year, further depleting the roster.
Robinson’s activation brings much-needed depth and strength to the defensive line, crucial for the Cardinals as they navigate the remainder of the season. The team is hopeful that he will contribute effectively as he continues to recover and adjust back into the lineup.
