There’s some encouraging news for New Orleans Saints fans regarding Derek Carr’s status.
The starting quarterback has missed the last three games due to an oblique injury, but head coach Dennis Allen indicated that he is expected to return this week.
“Derek Carr had a throwing session again today,” Allen said during Monday’s media briefing. “He looked good in the session. I anticipate he’ll be back in practice on Wednesday, and then we’ll assess his availability for this week. I’m optimistic about it.”
In Carr’s absence, the Saints have rotated between rookie Spencer Rattler and second-year quarterback Jake Haener. Rattler has completed 55 of 99 passes for 571 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, while Haener has gone 14 for 29 for 177 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions.
The Saints have also been dealing with injuries in their receiving corps, with top receiver Chris Olave currently in concussion protocol.
Allen mentioned that rookie receiver Bub Means will “miss time” due to a high ankle sprain, and there are no updates on running back Kendre Miller and cornerback Marshon Lattimore, both of whom left Sunday’s game with hamstring injuries.
This Sunday, the Saints will travel to face division rival Carolina, providing an opportunity to break a six-game losing streak—the longest the franchise has faced since 2005, when the team played home games in various locations due to Hurricane Katrina.
