Jones is making a return to the NFC West after being traded for the second time this season. He leaves the Tennessee Titans as a key player on their top-five defense, having been their second leading tackler.
Now with the Seattle Seahawks, Jones joins a young and talented defense that includes corners Tariq Woolen and Devon Witherspoon, as well as edge rushers Derrick Hall and Boye Mafe. He aims to enhance pass coverage from the linebacker position. The Seahawks currently lead the NFC West by one game, taking advantage of injuries affecting the 49ers and the struggles of the Rams and Cardinals, positioning themselves well for a strong playoff push with a formidable defense and effective offense.
First-year head coach Mike Macdonald has the Seahawks resembling the early days of the famed “Legion of Boom,” but it remains to be seen if he can elevate this roster to that level after adding Jones.
In contrast, the Titans seem to be entering a “fire sale” phase after trading both Jones and DeAndre Hopkins to gather more draft picks. Jerome Baker, who previously played six seasons with the Miami Dolphins, will take over Jones’s role in Tennessee. His arrival could also increase the responsibilities of rookie linebacker Cedric Gray.
With a current record of 1-5, despite having a statistically strong defense, it’s clear that Titans GM Ran Carthon is focused on rebuilding, which may involve finding a new quarterback. Fans had criticized him last season for not trading players like Derrick Henry, but this year it seems he is responding to those concerns by actively seeking to move players with expiring contracts and gather resources for the future.
