Packers Part Ways with Key DL Following Injury Crisis, Reunite with Recently Cut Long Snapper

On Monday, the Packers made a procedural decision by cutting long snapper Matt Orzech and activating defensive lineman Jonathan Ford from injured reserve. As anticipated, they followed up with another procedural move on Wednesday involving both players.

The team announced that they re-signed Orzech and released Ford. The Packers are likely to add Ford back to the practice squad if he clears waivers.

Ford’s 21-day practice window was coming to an end, which necessitated a decision from the Packers to either make a move or risk losing him for the season on injured reserve. He had been placed on injured reserve after sustaining an ankle injury during the final preseason game on August 24.

As a seventh-round pick in 2022, Ford has yet to see action in a regular-season game.

Orzech had been with the Packers throughout the offseason before being released in a procedural move prior to the start of the season. He played in all games for the Rams in 2022 and 2023 and served as the long-snapper for the Jaguars in 2019.

Although Orzech had a low snap on the game-winning field goal against the Texans on Sunday, punter Daniel Whelan managed to secure the hold, allowing Brandon McManus to successfully convert the 45-yard attempt on the final play.
