After a shoulder injury in March cut his 2023-24 season short, Kevin Huerter is finally returning to the court for the Sacramento Kings.
Huerter participated fully in practice for the first time this offseason on Tuesday, and head coach Mike Brown indicated he will reclaim his starting position if cleared to play in Thursday’s season opener. Brown commented that Huerter appears to have “missed a beat.” Kings star center Domantas Sabonis echoed this sentiment, praising Huerter’s performance during practice: “We had a scrimmage today, and he was making shots and playing good defense. He’s looking really good, and I’m excited for him. Coming back after seven months is tough, but he fit right back in with the starting unit.”
Sabonis emphasized the importance of Huerter’s shooting for the Kings, especially given the team’s struggles in that area during the preseason. While Huerter’s status for Thursday’s opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves remains uncertain, his return is highly anticipated.
Huerter faced challenges last season, averaging just 10.2 points per game with a shooting percentage of 36.1% from beyond the arc. However, after a lengthy rehabilitation process, he is expected to regain the form he displayed two years ago. Huerter is crucial to Sacramento’s offense as their primary shooter, and Sabonis is thrilled to have him back on the court.
