Amid the struggles of the New York Giants, the team is making moves to salvage their season by bolstering their defensive line. On Tuesday, they released edge rusher Boogie Basham, who had only made one tackle in 16 snaps this season and was not contributing on special teams. Once a second-round pick for the Buffalo Bills, Basham had ties to the current Giants administration but didn’t make an impact. The Giants have indicated they would be open to re-signing him to the practice squad, though he might find better opportunities elsewhere.
In Basham’s absence, edge rusher Tomon Fox is expected to step up. Fox has demonstrated versatility on special teams and, despite limited playing time—only 21 snaps over seven games—has shown potential. He will provide depth behind Azeez Ojulari, who is currently replacing the injured Kayvon Thibodeaux.
With the roster spot opened by Basham’s release, defensive tackle Armon Watts, who was initially on the practice squad, will be elevated to the 53-man roster. Watts poses a greater threat to other interior linemen on the team than to Fox. The decision to promote Watts may have been influenced by interest from other teams, indicating the Giants are trying to secure their depth on the defensive line as they navigate a challenging season.
