The deadline for contract extensions for players from the 2024 NBA Draft class is fast approaching, set for Monday, October 21. Among the key players seeking extensions are the Houston Rockets’ Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, while the Rockets have initiated extension discussions with both players, no max contracts have been offered.
Shams explained the situation:
“The Rockets’ front office has had productive conversations with Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, and their respective camps. Both players believe in their abilities and performance from last season, feeling they could eventually be deserving of max contracts. However, the Rockets have presented them with offers that provide some stability now, though they are not max deals. Both players will need to decide whether to accept these offers or test the waters in restricted free agency later.”

As it stands, neither Green nor Sengun has received a max contract offer, and it’s clear that if such an offer were on the table, an extension would likely have been signed by now. The Rockets are maintaining flexibility by not offering max deals, especially given Sengun’s low cap hold and their ability to match any offer he receives in restricted free agency.
While Houston has demonstrated commitment by offering long-term deals, they aren’t the terms that Green and Sengun are aiming for. By betting on themselves, both players may be setting the stage for strong individual performances this season, which could bolster their value in the future.
