The Giants are looking to strengthen their offensive tackle position and are bringing in Chris Hubbard from the 49ers’ practice squad, as announced by head coach Brian Daboll. With Andrew Thomas out for the season following surgery for a Lisfranc injury, Joshua Ezeudu will step in as the starting left tackle. Hubbard, who brings significant experience with 94 games and 58 starts, will serve as a depth option.
Although most of Hubbard’s experience has been at right tackle, he has occasionally played on the left side throughout his career. He spent four years with the Steelers, followed by five with the Browns, and had a brief stint in Tennessee, where he made nine starts at right tackle last season but did not secure a free agent contract earlier this offseason.
In May, the 49ers signed Hubbard to bolster their offensive line but released him during final roster cuts. He was quickly added to their practice squad, although he hasn’t yet played in a game this season. That will change once he joins the Giants.
With a record of 2-4, the Giants’ offense has faced challenges, and Thomas’s absence is a significant setback. If Hubbard sees playing time, he could help stabilize one of the tackle spots temporarily and potentially improve his market value for next offseason.
