In the midst of what is shaping up to be a promising season, Notre Dame football has suffered a significant loss with the injury of star cornerback Benjamin Morrison. A potential first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Morrison will miss the remainder of the season due to a hip injury, as reported by Matt Fortuna of The Inside Zone.
Morrison is considered one of the top cornerbacks in college football and serves as a team captain for the Fighting Irish this year. He was named a preseason All-American in 2024 after recording nine interceptions in his first two seasons as a starter. Although he hasn’t added any interceptions this season, he has achieved four pass breakups, bringing his career total to 18.
The Notre Dame defense will certainly feel Morrison’s absence, as his ability to dominate one side of the field has significantly contributed to the team’s status as one of the best defensive units in college football. After six games, the Fighting Irish rank eighth in the nation for points allowed per game (11.7) and sixth in passing yards allowed (148.7). His injury will likely make it easier for opponents to target the secondary.
The cornerback group expected to be highly regarded in the 2025 NFL Draft has also faced challenges, with Morrison’s injury being the latest setback. Earlier this season, East Carolina’s Shavon Revel suffered a torn ACL, which ended his season. Like Morrison, Revel was also considered a potential first-round pick.
In addition, Colorado’s Travis Hunter, arguably the top cornerback in the 2025 Draft, sustained an injury during the Buffs’ recent loss to Kansas State and did not return to the game. His status remains uncertain. If he is unable to play, that would mean three of college football’s elite cornerbacks are sidelined due to injuries.
