Texas A&M Coach Mike Elko Provides Crucial Injury Update on Star QB Ahead of Missouri Tigers Clash

Following a disappointing season-opening loss to Notre Dame, the Texas A&M Aggies have bounced back with a four-game winning streak, largely due to the impressive performance of redshirt freshman quarterback Marcel Reed. Reed stepped up after starting quarterback Conner Weigman suffered an AC joint injury during the first week of the season.

Since that injury, Weigman, who is still officially listed as the starting quarterback, has been in a holding pattern. He has been sidelined after being a game-time decision for the last three weeks.

During the SEC Teleconference call on Wednesday, Aggies head coach Mike Elko provided some encouraging news regarding Weigman, offering fans a glimmer of hope for his return. “He’s now throwing,” Elko noted. “We’re able to get him out there and functioning a little bit, which is good. He will be a game-time decision this week.”

Despite this positive update, Weigman’s questionable status on the initial SEC injury report has left many Texas A&M fans wanting more definitive news. Should Weigman be unable to play against the No. 9 Missouri Tigers, the Aggies will once again rely on Reed.

In his three starts this season, Reed has completed 38 of 68 passes for 513 yards, six touchdowns, and no interceptions. He has also contributed significantly on the ground, rushing 35 times for 187 yards and two additional scores.

Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz expects Reed to start on Saturday, stating, “I know on their depth chart it says [Conner Weigman] is the starting quarterback, but that’s just semantics in my opinion. [Marcel Reed] is 3-0 as the starter, and whether [Weigman] is listed as questionable or whatever, I don’t see them going back.”

The Aggies are set to face the Tigers at 11 a.m. on ABC from Kyle Field this Saturday.
