The Minnesota Timberwolves have reportedly signed guard Trevor Keels, as per HoopsHype reporter Michael Scotto. Keels, 21, was a former five-star recruit who played at Duke during the 2021-22 season. He earned ACC All-Freshman honors, averaging 11.5 points and 3.4 rebounds, starting in 26 games during his lone college season. Keels entered the 2022 NBA Draft, where he was selected in the second round by the New York Knicks.
In that same draft, Keels’ Duke teammate Wendell Moore Jr. was picked by the Dallas Mavericks, later traded to the Houston Rockets in a deal involving Christian Wood, and eventually ended up with the Timberwolves. Moore was later traded to the Detroit Pistons in 2024 after spending two seasons with Minnesota.
Keels spent most of the 2022-23 season in the G League, where he averaged 14.5 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.9 rebounds over 24 games. He also appeared in three games for the Knicks that season. Last year, Keels played 23 games for the Iowa Wolves, averaging 13.5 points, 3.7 assists, and 2.8 rebounds in 32 minutes per game.
Details of Keels’ new deal with the Timberwolves remain unclear as of Tuesday night.
