Reds Rising Star’s Rookie Season Cut Short by Critical Injury as Team Adjusts Roster

The Cincinnati Reds have placed rookie right-hander Julian Aguiar on the 15-day injured list due to a right elbow sprain, effectively ending his season. This move is retroactive to Saturday. In addition, the Reds activated right-hander Ian Gibaut from the 60-day injured list and outrighted right-hander Alan Busenitz to Triple-A Louisville after designating him for assignment on Sunday.

Aguiar, 23, last took the mound on Thursday, where he gave up seven runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four over four innings, suffering a loss in a 15-3 defeat against the Atlanta Braves. His season concludes with a record of 2-1, a 6.25 ERA, 12 walks, and 19 strikeouts across 31 2/3 innings in seven starts. The Reds had selected him in the 12th round of the 2021 MLB Draft, and he made his MLB debut on August 19.
