Chicago Bears Identified as Potential Trade Destination for $30 Million Defensive Tackle

The Denver Broncos are currently in a tough situation, particularly with rookie quarterback Bo Nix struggling. Instead of having D.J. Jones continue there, recent NFL analysis suggests that the Chicago Bears would be an ideal fit for the defensive tackle.

A few months ago, Jones spoke about the Broncos’ changing mindset for the 2024 NFL season. He emphasized the importance of a more aggressive approach, which he believes improves their defensive performance and offers a new outlook on the game. He noted that an attacking strategy allows the defensive line to adapt and react more effectively during games, highlighting the importance of detail and a relentless attitude to pressure opposing offenses.

Jones also pointed out that effective communication and collaboration within the defensive line help players understand their roles and adjust to various offensive strategies, fostering a strong team bond.

Given the Broncos’ underwhelming performance, Jones could be traded before the deadline, with ESPN’s Dan Graziano mentioning the Bears as a potential landing spot. Having signed a three-year, $30 million deal with Denver before the 2022 season, he’s in the last year of his contract, earning $10 million. As the Broncos face a challenging season, Jones may not fit into their long-term plans, especially since he predates head coach Sean Payton.

Turning 30 in January, he may not be a candidate for a long-term extension, but he could serve as a valuable half-season rental for a contender. So far this season, Jones has recorded six tackles and a quarterback hit.

For the Bears, who have a strong start to the season but are facing depth issues on the defensive line, adding Jones could bring much-needed experience and skill. His presence could strengthen their defensive front alongside starters Andrew Billings and Gervon Dexter Sr. Ultimately, acquiring Jones could boost the Bears’ chances this season and help them aim for a playoff run.
