Warriors Acquire Zach LaVine in Potential Blockbuster Trade Proposal

The Golden State Warriors expressed interest in Lauri Markkanen and Paul George during the offseason, signaling their desire to acquire a star player before the season begins in October. According to Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale, Zach LaVine, currently in the third year of a five-year, $215 million contract with the Chicago Bulls, could be a potential target.

Favale proposed a trade scenario where the Warriors would receive LaVine, while the Bulls would get Kevon Looney, Andrew Wiggins, Gary Payton II, and second-round picks from Atlanta in 2026 and 2028. Despite concerns about LaVine’s contract, which includes $138 million remaining over the next three years, the proposed trade would match his salary nearly dollar-for-dollar, alleviating immediate payroll issues for the Warriors.

Favale advised making the trade now to strengthen the Warriors’ position in the Western Conference, leaving financial adjustments for later. The challenge would be whether the Bulls would accept a deal involving future draft picks and cap relief, given LaVine’s current value and contract situation.

Earlier in the offseason, Chris Haynes reported that the Bulls were attempting to work out a deal with the Warriors, potentially involving Chris Paul (who is no longer with the team) and Wiggins in exchange for LaVine.

LaVine, a two-time All-Star known for his scoring ability, had his best season in 2020-2021 with averages of 27.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.9 assists. However, he struggled last season, playing only 25 games due to injuries and shooting a career-low 34.9% from beyond the arc.

Andy Bailey criticized the fit, suggesting that LaVine’s style of play might not mesh well with the Warriors’ emphasis on ball and player movement, making them a challenging landing spot for him. The Warriors, who finished 10th in the Western Conference last season, may consider LaVine if they struggle early and other star players aren’t available.
