Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is unlikely to play in Week 3, according to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Schefter expressed doubt about Love’s availability, saying, “I don’t think Jordan Love is going to be able to play. Let’s see how the week goes, but I personally don’t expect to see him out there on Sunday.”
Love suffered an MCL sprain in the season opener on September 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles, where he went 17 of 34 for 260 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception before exiting the game. The Packers lost that game in Brazil, adding to the disappointment of Love’s injury.
Schefter suggested that Weeks 4 or 5 are more realistic for Love’s return, with matchups against the Vikings or Rams being targeted. “He could surprise me with a quick recovery,” Schefter said, “but those always were the two dates they were eyeing.”
In Love’s absence, the Packers are expected to rely on backup quarterback Malik Willis, who impressed in Week 2’s 16-10 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Willis completed 12 of 14 passes, threw his first career touchdown, and added 41 rushing yards, earning a 126.8 passer rating. The Packers leaned heavily on the run game in that contest, racking up 261 rushing yards.
Love is seen as the future of the franchise, following a breakout 2023 season where he threw for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, leading the team to the NFC Divisional playoffs. Afterward, he signed a four-year, $220 million contract, securing his role as the Packers’ long-term leader. The team is in no hurry to rush him back, prioritizing his long-term health with hopes of making another playoff push once he returns.
