Scott Barlow, 31, was acquired by the Guardians from the San Diego Padres last November in exchange for right-hander Enyel De Los Santos. Despite his strikeout ability, Barlow struggled with consistency throughout the year, which led to the Guardians’ decision to designate him for assignment.
The Guardians also brought back lefty Anthony Gose, who will be rejoining the team for the fourth time this season. Gose has had a brief and challenging stint with Cleveland in 2024, making just two appearances. Over 3 1/3 innings pitched, he has struck out two batters, walked one, and allowed three earned runs on six hits. The 34-year-old has been designated three times already this year but continues to be an option for the Guardians due to his ability to provide bullpen depth when needed.
Cleveland’s bullpen has been heavily taxed recently, making these moves necessary to stabilize the pitching staff as the team pushes through the final stretch of the season.
