With the Houston Texans finalizing their roster at 53 players for the upcoming regular season, they’re also shaping their practice squad for 2024.
On Thursday, the Texans added quarterback Kedon Slovis to their practice squad. Previously with the Indianapolis Colts, Slovis was waived on Sunday but quickly found a new opportunity in Houston.
Slovis, who ended his college career at BYU, began at USC before transferring to Pitt and ultimately finishing his college career at BYU. Over five seasons, he amassed 11,689 passing yards and 80 touchdowns.
After going undrafted, Slovis joined the Colts, where he completed 16 of 22 passes for 149 yards during the preseason.
His addition is notable for the Texans as both backup quarterbacks Davis Mills and Case Keenum are set to become free agents after this season, potentially opening a spot for the 23-year-old Slovis to step in as a backup. Despite a season-ending injury last year, Slovis had a strong performance with 1,716 yards and 15 touchdowns in eight games.
It will be interesting to monitor Slovis’s role, as he could potentially emerge as a key backup for the Texans in the future.
