Breaking News: Chicago Bears Activate Unexpected Draft Pick Ahead of Final Preseason Matchup

The Chicago Bears will wrap up their 2024 preseason schedule on Thursday with a matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

While there hasn’t been an official word on whether the starters will play, it’s expected that the game will mostly serve as a chance for fringe players to compete for a spot on the 53-man roster.

Third-round pick offensive tackle Kiran Amegadjie is part of the Bears’ long-term plans for the offensive line, though an injury delayed his Training Camp start. However, on Sunday, there was positive news as the Bears activated Amegadjie from the NFI list.

The Bears’ starting offensive line for the season appears set, with Braxton Jones, Teven Jenkins, Coleman Shelton, Nate Davis, and Darnell Wright forming the lineup from left to right.

Key questions during Training Camp have centered around the center and right guard positions. With Ryan Bates sidelined by injury, Shelton has taken most of the first-team reps at center. Davis, the projected starter at right guard, hasn’t helped his case due to limited availability in camp, and he struggled during Saturday’s game against the Bengals.

When the Bears drafted Amegadjie in the third round, it raised some eyebrows—not because they picked an offensive lineman, but because he was considered a potential redshirt rookie. The expectation was that Amegadjie was a long-term replacement for Jones, not someone intended to contribute this season. Therefore, his initial placement on the NFI list didn’t cause much concern. Now that he’s healthy and back in practice, he’ll likely make the 53-man roster to start the season.
