Breaking News: Hornets Power Forward Departs, Set to Join International Club

Aleksej Pokusevski, who has spent the last four years bouncing between NBA teams, is set to continue his career overseas—at least for the time being.

According to Evan Sidery, Pokusevski is signing with EuroLeague team Partizan in Serbia following a season split between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Charlotte Hornets.

Hornets Player Grades: Aleksej Pokusevski

The question now is whether Pokusevski will stay in Serbia or return to the NBA in the future.

During the 2023-24 season, Pokusevski averaged 7.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists while playing for the Hornets. Originally drafted by the Thunder in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft as a potential backup big man, Pokusevski faced challenges as the Thunder’s roster grew deeper, leaving him with limited opportunities.

After moving to the Hornets, he struggled to secure a consistent role in their rotation. Returning to Serbia, where he was born in Belgrade, offers Pokusevski a chance to reconnect with family and friends and could be a beneficial move for his career.

Serbia recently showcased its basketball prowess, earning a bronze medal at the Olympics and coming close to defeating Team USA in a high-stakes match. If Pokusevski remains in Serbia, he might even have the opportunity to join the national team in future Olympic Games.

At just 22 years old, Pokusevski possesses both length and talent, and several NBA teams could potentially seek his return in the coming years. However, he might find greater comfort and opportunities in his home country.
