76ers Eye $53 Million Former Celtic in Latest Trade Proposal

The Philadelphia 76ers are gearing up for the 2024-25 season with a strong roster and veteran additions. Despite their tight cap space, they might still look to bolster their lineup further. One potential trade target is Grant Williams.

Grant Williams is on a revenge tour with the Hornets

In a proposal by Sixers Wire’s Ky Carlin on August 8, a trade between the Sixers and the Charlotte Hornets is suggested:

**Sixers receive:** Grant Williams
**Hornets receive:** KJ Martin

Carlin highlighted Williams’ appeal, noting his career 37.7% shooting from beyond the arc and his value as a “win-now veteran.”

Williams, who spent four years with the Boston Celtics from 2019 to 2023 and contributed to their 2022 NBA Finals run, split the 2023-24 season between the Dallas Mavericks and the Hornets. He performed better with the Hornets, averaging nearly 14 points per game on 50.3% shooting from the field and 37.3% from three-point range, compared to his 8.1 points per game with the Mavericks.

However, a trade for Williams would require more than just KJ Martin. With Martin earning $7.9 million for the 2024-25 season and Williams at $13 million, additional contracts would need to be included to balance the financials.

Williams is in the second year of a four-year, $53 million contract.

**Bobby Marks’ Perspective:**
ESPN’s Bobby Marks also sees potential value in Williams for the Sixers, mentioning them as a possible trade destination in a July 19 article. Marks noted that with three years and $41 million remaining on Williams’ contract, his value as a stretch 4 could be significant for Philadelphia.

Although Williams had a challenging season, his previous playoff performance with the Celtics—particularly his role in their 2022 series against the Milwaukee Bucks and his defensive work against stars like Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo—demonstrates his ability as a two-way player. His potential motivation to excel could further benefit the Sixers, who are aiming for a championship and have already strengthened their defense.
