announced that Stroman’s next appearance will be delayed until Sunday, with Nestor Cortes taking the mound on Thursday instead.
Boone explained that the adjustment will allow Stroman to focus on mechanical improvements, noting that he had a strong bullpen session recently. Boone emphasized the benefit of giving Stroman additional time to work through his issues without disrupting the entire pitching schedule.
Despite this delay, Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón are still set to start in the upcoming series against the Texas Rangers. Cole also had his start delayed recently due to general fatigue and a stomach virus.
Stroman, who had a solid beginning to the season, has shown signs of fatigue over the past month. In his most recent game against the Toronto Blue Jays, he struggled, lasting only 2.2 innings and giving up seven earned runs on eight hits. His fastball velocity has dropped from an average of 92 MPH last season to 89 MPH. Over his last seven starts, he has posted a 6.82 ERA with only one quality start.
With Clarke Schmidt already out of the rotation, the Yankees are counting on Stroman to deliver strong performances as they head into the final stretch of the season and the postseason. The hope is that the additional rest and time to address his mechanical issues will help Stroman bounce back and improve his performance on the mound.
