Cardinals Shuffle Roster: Rookie Center Fielder Hits Injured List, Outfielder Recalled as Playoff Push Intensifies

The St. Louis Cardinals have placed rookie center fielder Michael Siani on the 10-day injured list due to a right oblique strain and have recalled outfielder Victor Scott II from Triple-A Memphis.

Siani, renowned for his speed, has a .256 batting average with two home runs, 18 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases over 101 games this season. He sustained the injury during his second at-bat in Saturday’s 5-4 victory against the Chicago Cubs.

Manager Oliver Marmol is uncertain about the length of Siani’s recovery.

“Oblique injuries typically take some time to heal,” Marmol commented. “Recovery varies for each player. We’ll monitor how he responds in the coming days to get a clearer picture.”

Lars Nootbaar filled in at center field for the Cardinals in their Sunday night matchup against the Cubs.

Scott, who began the season with the Cardinals, had appeared in 20 games before being sent to Memphis. He struggled with a .085 average (5 for 65) in his St. Louis stint but fared better at Memphis, batting .219 with six home runs and 29 RBIs in 74 games.

Heading into Sunday night’s game, the Cardinals held a 57-54 record, sitting second in the NL Central and 2.5 games behind the final NL wild-card spot.
