Watford to Acquire Former Sheffield United Loan Player

Watford are progressing in negotiations to acquire Yasser Larouci from ESTAC Troyes, who recently spent time on loan at Sheffield United, according to The Athletic.

With Sheffield United facing relegation from the Premier League, they and Watford will compete in the Championship next season. Sheffield United will be aiming for a major overhaul under Chris Wilder’s guidance, while Watford hopes for a fresh start with new manager Tom Cleverley.

Watford to conclude Yasser Larouci transfer after Sheffield United spell

Despite some recent signings at Vicarage Road, Watford’s need for a left-back has been a key focus. Larouci, who had a brief stint at Sheffield United, is now a target for Watford.

The deal under consideration is a loan-to-buy arrangement similar to the one that brought the 23-year-old to Sheffield United last summer. Although he made 13 appearances, he did not make a lasting impression in the Premier League, and the loan option was not exercised. However, Watford are optimistic that Larouci, who has played 42 times in Ligue 1, will perform better in the Championship.

Larouci’s time at Sheffield United was not memorable, with limited appearances and underwhelming performances. Nonetheless, his experience in France suggests he might thrive in a more stable environment at a lower level.

Watford would benefit from adding Larouci, who could be a strong candidate for the left wing-back position in Cleverley’s setup, but is also versatile enough to play as a left-back if needed.

Currently, James Morris is the only natural left-back, making the addition of Larouci valuable for providing depth and reducing reliance on Morris. Ryan Andrews, primarily a right-back, has also been used on the left, but ideally, he will return to his preferred side. The completion of Larouci’s transfer is anticipated as discussions continue.
