Hull City Seal £3m Deal for West Brom Star

Hull City is on the verge of securing their second signing of the summer. After acquiring Ryan Giles from Luton Town, Football Insider reports that the Tigers have reached an agreement with West Bromwich Albion to sign Brandon Thomas-Asante.

The East Yorkshire club urgently needs to boost their attacking options, having seen several key players depart the MKM Stadium recently. Liam Delap and Noah Ohio left after their loan deals ended, and Fabio Carvalho and Anass Zaroury also moved on—each could have made significant contributions for the 2024/25 season.

Additionally, Aaron Connolly and Billy Sharp were released after their contracts expired, despite Connolly’s solid scoring record last season. Jaden Philogene was sold back to Aston Villa for approximately £13.5 million, a significant loss given his impressive performance during his first season with Hull City.

With a substantial amount of money from the sales of Jacob Greaves and Philogene, Hull City is keen to invest in replacements and new signings. They are expected to have another opportunity to strengthen their squad during the January transfer window if necessary.

Hull City’s pursuit of Brandon Thomas-Asante has intensified, with the club reportedly increasing their offer from £2.5 million to £3 million to secure the deal. Thomas-Asante, who scored 12 goals and provided 2 assists in 43 appearances for West Brom during the 2023/24 season, is seen as a top target and is close to completing the move from The Hawthorns after two years at the club.

While signing Thomas-Asante is a promising step, Hull City still faces more work in the transfer market, particularly in strengthening their striking and wing positions. Without further attacking reinforcements, their chances of competing for promotion could be compromised. They may also need to find a replacement for Greaves, who was a key player for the team.
