Despite the New York Mets’ inconsistent performance throughout the 2024 season, one constant has been the prevalence of injuries.
Recently, reliever Reed Garrett was placed on the 15-day injured list due to elbow inflammation, and Drew Smith underwent season-ending elbow surgery. Now, another young and promising starter joins the injured list.
Promising young starter Christian Scott is heading to the 15-day injured list.

According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the Mets have placed starting pitcher Christian Scott on the 15-day injured list with a right UCL sprain. Scott underwent an MRI today, and the organization is awaiting multiple doctors to review the results to confirm it is a sprain and not a tear.
The 25-year-old has made nine starts in the big leagues this season, pitching 47.1 innings to a 4.56 ERA with a 1.204 WHIP while striking out 39. Scott has also made nine starts for Triple-A Syracuse, pitching 42.1 innings to a 2.76 ERA with a 0.969 WHIP and 55 strikeouts.
Rather than calling up another starting pitcher to fill Scott’s spot on the roster, the Mets have called up left-handed reliever Alex Young.
Young appeared in three games for the Cincinnati Reds this season, pitching two innings while giving up four hits, no runs, and striking out a pair, but has primarily been pitching at the Triple-A level.
The 30-year-old made 23 appearances for Triple-A Louisville, pitching 22.2 innings to a stellar 1.19 ERA with a 0.838 WHIP and 22 strikeouts. Young didn’t get the same results in his two appearances for Triple-A Sacramento, pitching two innings across two appearances to a 13.50 ERA with a 3.000 WHIP and one strikeout.
The Ohio native made just one appearance for Triple-A Syracuse before his call-up, going just 0.2 of an inning while allowing a hit and a walk.
Young may be on a short leash with Scott’s place in the rotation needing to be filled, but the 30-year-old should at least get a chance to prove himself in an appearance before then.
