Neil Harris faces a busy summer preparing for the 2024/25 season as Millwall aims to build on their 13th-place finish in the Championship last season.
Returning for his second spell as Millwall manager in February, Harris guided the team from 21st place, just above the relegation zone, to a mid-table finish. This solid performance provides a good foundation for the upcoming season.
In May, the club released their 2023/24 retained list, seeing club legends Shaun Hutchinson and Bartosz Bialkowski depart, and defender Alex Mitchell transfer to Charlton Athletic for an undisclosed fee.
Millwall has made notable signings, including Notts County striker Macauley Langstaff, former Tottenham Hotspur loanee Japhet Tanganga, and Lincoln City’s Danish goalkeeper Lukas Jensen.
Despite this progress, Harris has more work to do before the new season starts. According to Football Insider, Millwall is competing with Plymouth Argyle to sign striker Namory Cisse from Austria Lustenau. Cisse, relatively unknown in English football, is a 6ft 4in, 21-year-old forward with three goals in 26 games last season.
Millwall’s injury woes continue with midfielder Billy Mitchell joining winger Adam Mayor and goalkeeper Connal Trueman on the sidelines. Mitchell is set to miss the season opener against Watford due to a thigh injury. His absence leaves Harris with George Saville, Casper De Norre, and Ryan Leonard as midfield options.
With just under a month until the new season, Harris is targeting two new signings before the club’s training camp in Spain. He hopes to strengthen the squad with additional players to prepare for the challenging fixtures ahead. Harris remains optimistic about the recruitment team’s efforts to bring in fresh talent.
