It seems like every week there’s a new rumor about the Steelers looking at potential receiver options.
The Steelers are openly seeking to upgrade at receiver, especially in one of their starting spots. Roman Wilson’s position, whether in the slot or on the outside, will be determined during training camp. Depending on his placement, the other starting spot may need enhancement.
Meanwhile, the Texans have an abundance of quality receivers, which could lead to trade opportunities during the preseason. The Steelers could target the Texans to upgrade one of their starting receiver positions before the regular season.
John Metchie III could see his role reduced with the Texans.
Metchie has faced significant challenges early in his career. He tore his ACL before the NFL Draft and was later diagnosed with cancer, causing him to miss his rookie season. Although he returned last season, he had limited playing time. Metchie, a former second-round pick, has untapped potential and excelled at Alabama. The Steelers might be interested in trading for him as a low-risk, high-reward deep-threat option.
The Steelers could also consider trading for veteran Robert Woods.
Robert Woods, a seasoned player for the Texans, might become available via trade. Despite not surpassing 1,000 receiving yards in a season for over four years, he can still provide quality snaps and leadership. If Woods loses his starting spot to Metchie or Noah Brown, the Texans might trade him. The Steelers need more experienced receivers, and Woods could fill that role.
Another trade option could be Noah Brown.
Even though Brown recently re-signed with the Texans, he could be traded due to their crowded receiver room. Brown, primarily a slot receiver, has proven to be a reliable option and is coming off his best two NFL seasons. If Roman Wilson performs better on the outside, the Steelers might pursue Brown. If Brown doesn’t perform well, they can let him walk in free agency next year.
