The Toronto Argonauts and quarterback Chad Kelly have reportedly reached a settlement in the lawsuit that led to Kelly’s suspension by the CFL.
According to CBC.ca, the case was resolved through mediation.
The plaintiff, a former Argonauts employee who served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach, had sought $80,000 from Kelly, $85,714 from the team, and $10,000 in punitive damages. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
Mediation, a non-binding process in which a third party facilitates settlement discussions, is increasingly mandated by courts and often results in resolution.
The lawsuit investigation led to a minimum nine-game suspension for Kelly. Last month, he withdrew from the team’s training camp.
Kelly, who previously played for the Broncos and Colts, was named the equivalent of the MVP in the CFL last year, leading Toronto to a 16-2 regular-season record. He is the nephew of Hall of Famer Jim Kelly.
