Yasir Rosemond, a former guard for the University of Oregon, is making a return to his alma mater as part of the coaching staff. After spending the last four seasons on the coaching team at Indiana University and a brief three-month stint at LSU, Rosemond has now joined Dana Altman’s coaching staff at Oregon. He steps in to fill the vacancy created by the departure of assistant coach Louis Rowe earlier this offseason.
Coach Dana Altman expressed enthusiasm about Rosemond’s return, highlighting his extensive experience in player development as a valuable asset to the Oregon basketball program. “We are really excited to have Yasir back in Eugene,” Altman said, emphasizing how Rosemond’s background will positively impact their student-athletes.

Rosemond brings with him more than two decades of coaching experience, including a previous tenure at Oregon from 2005 to 2010. His coaching career has seen him hold assistant coaching positions at several notable programs, including Alabama (2017-2019), Georgia (2014-2017), Samford University (2012-2014), and Seattle University (2010-2011). Before joining these roles, he served as the director of basketball operations at Oregon under coach Ernie Kent in 2005 and was promoted to assistant coach from 2007 to 2010. During his time at Oregon, he worked closely with prominent players such as Aaron Brooks, Malik Hairston, Maarty Leunen, and Tajuan Porter, helping to shape their collegiate careers.
Rosemond’s connection to Oregon goes beyond coaching. As a player, he began his college basketball journey at Okaloosa-Walton Junior College in the 1995-96 season, then redshirted at Butler Community College in Kansas before transferring to Oregon for his final two seasons. Over those two years, he made five starts in a total of 58 appearances. His leadership and inspirational presence on the team were recognized in 1999 when he received the John Warren Award, given to the team’s most inspirational player. Following his collegiate career, Rosemond played professionally in Brazil for four seasons, gaining international playing experience before transitioning into coaching.
Rosemond’s return to Oregon is viewed as a significant addition to the coaching staff, given his comprehensive experience as both a player and coach, his familiarity with the program, and his proven track record in mentoring young athletes. His hiring is expected to bolster the Ducks’ efforts as they aim to continue competing at a high level in collegiate basketball.
