Michigan Sets Sights on Flipping Five-Star Ohio State Commit

As February approaches and National Signing Day nears next Wednesday, recruiting activity for the Michigan Wolverines is ramping up. Let’s explore the latest developments, starting with Michigan’s bold attempt to flip a highly coveted wide receiver committed to their biggest rival, Ohio State.

Michigan Targets Five-Star Ohio State Commit Chris Henry Jr.

Michigan is reportedly setting its sights on five-star wide receiver Chris Henry Jr., a top recruit for the 2026 class and the third-best player overall according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Henry has been committed to Ohio State for six months, but recent actions suggest that Michigan may be looking to change that.

EJ Holland from The Wolverine noted that head coach Sherrone Moore and several Michigan staff members have recently followed Henry on social media, indicating potential recruiting interest. Despite this, Henry has not publicly expressed any interest in Michigan. Nevertheless, Michigan has a reputation for operating discreetly in recruiting battles and often prevails when adopting an aggressive approach.

Holland emphasized Michigan’s track record, stating, “Michigan likes to work behind the scenes and is very, very difficult to beat when it takes the ‘won’t be outbid approach.’”

Interestingly, Henry’s recruiting coordinator, Rudy Cambero, has previous experience working with Michigan during Mason Graham’s recruitment. Cambero acknowledged that Henry remains committed to Ohio State but left the door open for possible changes: “At the end of the day, it’s going to come down to where he feels comfortable and what system fits him. With everything going on in college football recruiting, you never know where these kids are going to end up.”

Though the chances of Michigan flipping Henry appear slim, especially given Henry’s public show of allegiance to Ohio State wide receivers coach Brian Hartline, the Wolverines remain persistent, knowing that financial incentives and strategic recruiting efforts can yield surprises.

Michigan’s Pursuit of Top Offensive Line Talent

In other recruiting news, Michigan made the top-12 list for 2026 four-star offensive lineman Carter Scruggs. Scruggs, who visited Ann Arbor three times last fall, including for the Wolverines’ victory over Michigan State, highlighted Michigan’s reputation for developing NFL-bound linemen and providing excellent academics. He plans to make an official visit in June.

Scruggs emphasized that “player development, education, and relationships” are key factors in his decision, areas where Michigan excels.

Quick Recruiting Updates

Several high-profile prospects are reportedly visiting Michigan this weekend, including:

  • Top-150 four-star wide receiver Travis Johnson
  • Top-200 four-star defensive lineman Jermaine Kinsler
  • Top-300 four-star defensive back Jordan Thomas

Additionally, Michigan recently extended offers to 2026 three-star tight end Eddie Whiting and three-star cornerback Camren Hamiel. As National Signing Day approaches, Michigan’s recruiting efforts show no signs of slowing down.
