The New York Giants are on the hunt for a new starting quarterback in 2025, a situation that’s been generating widespread discussion. Adding fuel to the conversation, Giants’ star running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. recently shared his thoughts on the team’s QB search during an interview with New York Post Sports host Brandon London. When asked who he thinks should be the next quarterback for the Giants, Tracy named Miami Hurricanes prospect Cam Ward as his top pick.
“I’m a fan of Cam Ward,” Tracy stated, after briefly discussing the challenges a rookie might face in adapting to head coach Brian Daboll’s offensive system. He elaborated on his preference for Ward, highlighting the dual-threat quarterback’s ability to excel both as a passer and a runner. “That’s where the league is shifting to,” Tracy emphasized, adding that Daboll’s offense includes numerous QB runs and situations where mobility is key.
Tracy made it clear that while other quarterback prospects in the draft class also possess running abilities, Ward stands out as the best dual-threat QB based on the film he’s reviewed. “Ward is my favorite,” he concluded, joking that his opinion likely holds “zero weight” with the Giants’ front office. However, he expressed confidence that Daboll would prioritize bringing in a passionate and high-IQ leader who fits the team’s winning culture.
Meanwhile, NFL Network draft expert Daniel Jeremiah recently predicted that Cam Ward could land with the Giants at No. 3 overall in the upcoming draft. According to Jeremiah’s first official mock draft, Ward may not be a lock for the No. 1 or No. 2 pick despite his impressive talent.
Jeremiah suggested that the Tennessee Titans, holding the first pick, might opt for Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter instead of targeting a quarterback. He cited Titans president Chad Brinker’s interest in selecting a “generational talent.” Similarly, Jeremiah predicted that the Cleveland Browns, holding the second pick, could go with Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter rather than a QB, viewing Hunter as a versatile offensive player.
If Ward falls to the Giants at No. 3, it would be a dream scenario for Big Blue fans, given his strong arm and playmaking abilities, which fit perfectly with Daboll’s offensive vision. However, the Giants may also consider Shedeur Sanders, another highly rated QB prospect.
Ultimately, the Giants’ chances of landing Ward or Sanders depend on how the Titans and Browns evaluate the two quarterbacks and whether other teams attempt to trade up for a top pick. As the offseason progresses and free agency unfolds, clearer signals will emerge regarding the Giants’ potential draft prospects and the future of their quarterback position.
