49ers Eye Potential Trade to Land Key Missouri Offensive Tackle in Latest Mock Draft

As we dive into mock drafts and analyze expert opinions, it’s time to consider what the 49ers might be targeting in this year’s draft. While fans have different priorities for the team, one recent mock draft suggests the 49ers could benefit from selecting an offensive lineman.

NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah released his first mock draft on Saturday, noting that it was based on what he’s hearing around the league since the NFL Scouting Combine has not yet occurred. In his projection, Jeremiah has the 49ers selecting Missouri offensive lineman Armand Membou. Here’s what he had to say about the pick:

Membou is considered the most technically refined offensive lineman in this draft class. Jeremiah compares him to Alijah Vera-Tucker when he first entered the league, and believes Membou could be an excellent guard who also has the flexibility to play tackle if needed.

This offseason, the focus should be on “fixing the lines,” with an emphasis on the offensive line. The 49ers need a succession plan for Trent Williams, who won’t play forever, so having a solid replacement ready is crucial.

Regarding Membou, his background in a zone-based run scheme aligns well with the 49ers’ offensive system. While it’s impossible to judge his combine performance yet, based on the tape and his draft profile, he seems like a solid pick. One potential concern is his height at 6’3″, which could make him less ideal as a tackle, but with the future of 49ers guard Aaron Banks uncertain, Membou could prove to be a good fit at guard.

Some projections suggest Membou could go as high as the 24th pick, while the 49ers are picking 11th. So, while there may be a better defensive lineman available at 11, based on Jeremiah’s reasoning, this pick makes sense. The 49ers need to shore up both the offensive and defensive lines, especially as they plan for the future when Trent Williams eventually steps down.
