Nicholas Morrow’s second stint with the Buffalo Bills has come to an abrupt end.
The 29-year-old linebacker originally signed a one-year deal with the Bills in March and featured in 11 games this season, predominantly contributing on special teams. However, the team waived him on December 7. Despite his release, Morrow quickly found himself back with the Bills after generating interest from the Green Bay Packers. On December 24, Buffalo re-signed him following Baylon Spector’s placement on injured reserve due to a calf injury.
Just over a week later, Morrow’s return came to a close. According to the league’s transaction wire, the Bills released him on Thursday.
During his time with the team this season, Morrow logged 44 defensive snaps while playing 182 snaps on special teams across 11 games. His release leaves Buffalo with a vacant roster spot, and although the Bills have not announced a corresponding move, speculation points toward the possibility of signing a player from the practice squad. With the regular season finale against the New England Patriots approaching, Buffalo is expected to rest many starters, providing opportunities for backups and practice squad call-ups. The team can elevate only two players from the practice squad, so freeing up Morrow’s roster spot may give them the flexibility to address a more pressing need.
The Bills secured the AFC’s No. 2 seed following a dominant 40-14 victory over the New York Jets in Week 17. With their playoff position locked, the Week 18 matchup holds little significance for the team, other than as preparation for the postseason. However, the Bills must await the weekend’s results to determine their opponent for Super Wild Card Weekend. Potential challengers include the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, and Cincinnati Bengals.
While Morrow’s second tenure with the Bills ends without much fanfare, the team’s decision to part ways with him could reflect their strategic planning for the postseason.
