Bengals Make Key Roster Moves, Part Ways with Veteran QB to Add New Talent

The Cincinnati Bengals’ season, which began with Super Bowl aspirations, has taken some unexpected turns. Despite the presence of offensive stars like quarterback Joe Burrow and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, the team has struggled to live up to its high preseason expectations. Burrow himself has called this the most frustrating year of his career, and despite sitting at a 7-8 record, the Bengals’ playoff hopes remain alive if they can successfully navigate the remaining games of the regular season.

As the Bengals make their final push for the playoffs, they are making some strategic roster changes. In a move to strengthen their team for the stretch run, the Bengals announced via their official Twitter account that they are promoting defensive lineman Isaiah Thomas from the practice squad to the active roster. This move is part of a broader reshuffling of personnel as the team seeks to improve its chances in the upcoming crucial games.

However, this promotion also required the Bengals to make a difficult decision. Veteran quarterback Logan Woodside has been waived, marking the end of his time on the active roster for now. Woodside’s journey with the Bengals has been a bit of a rollercoaster. He started the season on the practice squad, but after a series of roster moves, he earned a spot on the active roster on December 14. Now, with his release, Woodside’s future with the team is uncertain, pending the waiver deadline on Tuesday.

Currently, Jake Browning is the only backup to Burrow, which means that the Bengals could opt to re-sign Woodside to the practice squad in order to maintain quarterback depth for the important games ahead. Woodside’s NFL experience has been limited, with just 13 appearances, four completions on seven attempts, and a total of 34 passing yards. While he has yet to throw a touchdown, he does have one interception in his career. Despite these modest numbers, Woodside’s experience could still be valuable as the Bengals attempt to keep their playoff hopes alive.

As the Bengals work through these roster adjustments, fans are anxiously awaiting to see if these changes will spark a turnaround. With Burrow and Chase leading the way, the team’s potential remains high, but the Bengals’ ability to turn their season around may depend on how they respond to these new roster dynamics and the challenges of their remaining schedule.
