The Chicago Bears have entered the rumor mill of the 2025 NFL offseason earlier than expected, with Bovada listing them as one of the betting favorites to trade for Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson. While Wilson’s uncertain comments about his future with the Jets on December 19 sparked trade speculation, it seems unlikely the Bears would pursue him.
The Bears have already locked in D.J. Moore on a lucrative extension and invested heavily in rookie Rome Odunze, leaving them well-stocked at wide receiver for the foreseeable future. Despite Wilson’s talent—nearing his third consecutive 1,000-yard season and overcoming subpar quarterback play—the Jets are unlikely to trade him, given his rookie contract runs through 2025 with a fifth-year option for 2026.
Instead of chasing Wilson, the Bears are more likely to target offensive and defensive line improvements in the offseason. If they do explore enhancing their receiving corps, more cost-effective options such as veteran Keenan Allen in free agency or rookie draft picks appear more practical. Allen, who becomes a free agent in March, could provide short-term value if his asking price aligns with the Bears’ cap space, which is projected at $68.1 million. Alternatively, they could consider lower-cost veterans or mid-round rookies to bolster their depth, especially after releasing Velus Jones Jr. and relying sparingly on Tyler Scott in 2024.
While the Bears have the draft capital to make an enticing offer for Wilson, with a probable top-10 pick and two early second-rounders, their current receiving duo of Moore and Odunze makes a blockbuster trade for a star like Wilson unnecessary. Strengthening other roster areas and maintaining a long-term approach will likely remain the team’s offseason priorities.
