Rays Target 3 Key Offensive Upgrades in Bold Offseason Trade Proposal

The Tampa Bay Rays recognize a critical need to improve their offensive production, particularly in driving in runs. This urgency was emphasized by Erik Neander, the team’s president of baseball operations, shortly after the 2024 season concluded. “The catching position, the production we got last year was nowhere near where it needed to be to be a playoff-contributing position,” Neander told reporters. “We need to find a way to score more runs. I think there are a few different ways we can go about doing that. But upgrading the catcher situation, without question.”

Given the limited options in free agency, the Rays are expected to address this issue through trades. One name that stands out is San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano.

Team Needs (as of Dec. 19): Catcher, Infielder, Outfielder

Catcher: Luis Campusano (via Trade)
Luis Campusano is a strong trade candidate for the Rays, especially considering his recent performance. While he struggled in 2024 with a .227 batting average, eight home runs, and 40 RBIs, his potential remains evident. Tampa Bay’s robust farm system gives them the flexibility to make a deal for Campusano. Despite his down year, the 25-year-old catcher offers upside and could thrive in the Rays’ environment.

Infielder: Ha-Seong Kim
Ha-Seong Kim brings the versatility that the Rays value in an infielder. At 29 years old, Kim can handle multiple positions, including both left-side infield spots and second base. He offers an affordable solution for the team’s infield needs with a manageable $12.3 million annual salary. Kim’s reliable defense and ability to contribute offensively make him an ideal fit for Tampa Bay.

Outfielder: Randal Grichuk
At 33 years old, Randal Grichuk remains a productive hitter, boasting a .291 batting average and an impressive .875 OPS in 2024. For a team desperate for offensive upgrades, Grichuk fits perfectly as a corner outfielder. Additionally, his market value of $3.3 million aligns with the Rays’ goal of maximizing production while staying within budget.

As Tampa Bay aims to strengthen its roster for a competitive 2025 season, these potential acquisitions could address their glaring offensive deficiencies while maintaining financial discipline.
