The Denver Nuggets are looking to bolster their offense by targeting a high-scoring player through trade. According to The Athletic’s Tony Jones and Sam Amick, the team wants to find help for reigning MVP Nikola Jokić, who has been exceptional this season, averaging 30.9 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 9.9 assists per game. Despite Jokić’s stellar performance, the Nuggets believe they need another offensive weapon to support him.
The primary target in their sights is Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine. The two-time All-Star is averaging 21.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 33.3 minutes per game, while shooting a career-best 42.8% from three-point range. LaVine is making $43 million this season, with a $45.9 million salary for next year and a player option worth $48.9 million for the 2026-27 season.
To make a deal work, the Nuggets would likely need to include forward Michael Porter Jr., whose salary could match LaVine’s. Porter is averaging 18.5 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists, while shooting 38.5% from beyond the arc. Backup forward Zeke Nnaji would also likely be part of the trade package. The Nuggets had previously explored trading for Paul George over the offseason, with Porter and Nnaji as potential assets, but those discussions fell through.
With Jokić and Jamal Murray as the offensive cornerstones, the Nuggets believe adding a player like LaVine, who can create his own shot, would give them a much-needed offensive boost for a deeper playoff run.
