Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown is set to undergo surgery on his right knee, though team owner and GM Jerry Jones stated on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas that there is no clear timeline for his return.
Reports indicate that Overshown’s injury extends beyond an ACL tear, with further evaluation via an MRI scheduled to determine the full extent. Jones expressed deep sympathy for Overshown, noting that the player had recently endured extensive rehab for an ACL tear in his left knee during his rookie season in 2023.
“It’s the toughest time for a player,” Jones remarked, highlighting both the personal and team impact of Overshown’s injury during the Cowboys’ final four games.
Overshown sustained the injury during a 2-yard run by Chase Brown late in the Cowboys’ 27-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Following the hit to the side of his right leg, he remained on the field until medical personnel could assist him off.
Head coach Mike McCarthy acknowledged the severity of the injury post-game, calling it “serious” and stating, “It’s not good.” The emotional toll was palpable on the sidelines, with linebacker Micah Parsons visibly tearful. “I cried,” Parsons said. “It’s like my little bro. He doesn’t deserve that. I’ll be there for him because it’s just so challenging.”
Overshown had been a standout player for the Cowboys, ranking as their second-leading tackler this season. He became just the third player in team history since 1982 to achieve at least five sacks, an interception returned for a touchdown, a fumble recovery, and a forced fumble in a single season, joining DeMarcus Ware and Greg Ellis.
With Overshown joining the injured reserve list, which already includes key players like quarterback Dak Prescott and guard Zack Martin, the Cowboys face additional challenges in their final stretch of games. Teammates, including cornerback Jourdan Lewis, emphasized their support for Overshown as he embarks on another arduous recovery journey. “We’re going to stay with him,” Lewis said. “He’s a heck of a football player.”
