The Utah Jazz have reached an agreement with free agent wing David Jones on a two-way contract, as confirmed by his agents Deirunas Visockas and Guillermo Bermejo, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
Jones had an impressive junior season with Memphis in 2023-24, averaging 21.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game on shooting splits of .459/.380/.797 in 32 games (32.3 minutes per game). A native of the Dominican Republic, Jones previously played at DePaul and St. John’s before transferring to Memphis.
After going undrafted in June, Jones initially signed a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers and competed in their Summer League teams in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas. Over seven games, he averaged 9.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game in 18.2 minutes. However, he was waived by the 76ers in September, just before training camp, to make room for Lester Quinones on the roster.
Following his release, Jones began his professional career with the Mexico City Capitanes in the G League, where he has averaged 21.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in four games, shooting .475 from the field, .316 from three, and .789 from the free-throw line.
As the Jazz don’t currently have an available two-way slot, they will need to waive one of their existing two-way players—Jason Preston, Micah Potter, or Oscar Tshiebwe—in order to finalize Jones’ addition to the roster.
