Texas A&M football has a slim chance of making the expanded College Football Playoff, but the team will still be participating in a bowl game regardless of the outcome. However, the Aggies will have to finish the season without one of their top playmakers. Wide receiver Cyrus Allen, a key contributor this year, has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to an arm injury.
Allen suffered the injury during Texas A&M’s dominant 38-3 victory over New Mexico State in Week 12. He left the game in the first quarter after sustaining an elbow issue and did not return. Head coach Mike Elko confirmed that Allen will undergo surgery and miss the rest of the season. Despite the setback, Allen had been one of the Aggies’ most reliable targets, recording 18 receptions for 269 yards and a touchdown through the first 10 games of the season.
The loss of Allen is a significant blow to Texas A&M’s receiving corps. He was third on the team in both receptions and receiving yards, and his absence will leave a gap in the Aggies’ offensive production. Coach Elko will now rely on other wide receivers, including Jabre Barber, Noah Thomas, Jahdae Walker, and Terry Bussey, to step up and fill the void left by Allen’s injury.
In addition to Allen’s injury, the Aggies have already faced another major setback this season with the loss of running back Le’Veon Moss to a serious injury. Moss was another key contributor to the offense, so Texas A&M has had to adjust its game plan without two key players. Despite these challenges, the Aggies have managed to maintain a solid record.
Currently, Texas A&M sits at 8-2 and ranks second in the SEC, but the team faces two tough games to close out the regular season. The Aggies will take on Auburn before facing Texas in a highly anticipated rivalry game. Texas is already locked into the College Football Playoff, making the final stretch of the regular season all the more difficult for Texas A&M as they aim for a bowl game appearance.
